Bill has been a mentor to many: able to build trust, motivation, and simply 'being' a positive model. I met him, only a few months into my PhD, during an intense and absolutely crazy summer school. He encouraged me to write my first article, he helped me to find a place to stay when I was a low-income visiting student in London, he showed me the beauty of academic conviviality. Such a critical thinker, and such a lovely human being. And with excellent taste in music. I will miss you, Bill. My warmest condolences to all your beloved ones.
