I met Bill in a pub (where else) called The Half Moon in Cheriton Fitzpaine in Devon, over 40 years ago. I was a police officer in the Met, and he made it his project to radicalise me. Over the years our friendship grew deeper, I studied with him at Exeter University on the MA course on Police and Criminal Justice studies. I watched Amy and Cathy grow up, and like such friendships, we thought it would never end. And now he has moved on to a new pub somewhere else. When it is my turn, I know I will meet him there. He will have a pint waiting, and he will say; "...Now as I was saying about Sir Robert Mark..." Rest gently Bill, you were a one-off, I shall always miss you. Until we meet again, old friend.!
